FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA – Aug. 11, 2021 – Bill Hicks and Bob Jolley, retired industry leaders, received the Incentive Marketing Association (IMA) Lifetime Achievement Award during the IMA Summit Awards ceremony at the IMA Summit this week.
The IMA Lifetime Achievement Award (formerly IMA Hall of Fame) was established in 2016 to honor individuals who, through a lifetime of achievements in the incentive marketplace, played a major role in the success of the industry. This Award recognizes the business personality who best represents achievement and longevity, acknowledging the winner’s sustained achievements within the incentive industry during a distinguished career.
Bill Hicks epitomizes all of the hallmarks of the Lifetime Achievement Award. He was in the industry for over 30 years and was known as one of the most successful and recognizable incentive suppliers. He contributed to the industry in many ways, serving on numerous boards, including the IMA and its predecessor organizations; becoming an ambassador for the industry through outreach at colleges and delivering the messages about how incentive programs contribute to business performance to media here in the US and abroad. Hicks was always available and willing to mentor and help others by sharing his strategies and knowledge with his fellow suppliers.
In his taped acceptance remarks Hicks said what a great honor it was to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the IMA. In reviewing his over 30 years in the industry, he explained “I was with the right company, the right industry and at the right time.”
Hicks lauded the strength of the Oneida brand and his long-time employer’s commitment to special markets along with the great people, networking and relationships within the industry. “My peers were actually my competitors, but most of the leads I ever received came right from this organization [IMA], and we proved that Davids can compete with Goliaths.”
Throughout his career, Bob Jolley was an active participant and leader in many industry organizations. Jolley’s drive and energy in bringing together all sectors of the industry created the path that led to the formation of what is today the Incentive Marketing Association (IMA). He saw that individual organizations were struggling financially by operating independently. By creating an umbrella organization, like the IMA, with all sectors of the industry working together all would become stronger.
In his taped acceptance remarks, Jolley shared how the use of incentives expanded from early loyalty programs such as banks giving customers a toaster for opening a new account to include employee and sales incentive programs. “No matter how much the industry changed during my 30+ years, my success can be attributed primarily to the people I met through the associations I joined. Every year until I retired, I served on the boards and committees of these organizations. It was the people I met through these associations and the networking that was open to me at the IMA Summit and other events that contributed to my success.
“The associations opened doors for me and have been a big part of my life. I encourage you to become a board member and volunteer for committees and participate in all the IMA has to offer. I am sure you will reap the benefits and grow your business,” Jolley encouraged.
